Martin Milner, ND began practicing naturopathic medicine in 1983 after graduating from NCNM. He has remained at his alma mater since 1986 as Professor of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Milner was also the CEO and medical director of the Center for Holistic Medicine (1983-1991). Throughout his career he served as Professor of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary medicine at NCNM. He established the Center for Natural Medicine, Inc in 1991. Under his leadership, CNM became one of the largest integrative health clinics in the Northwest and oversaw its designation as the first United States naturopathic Patient Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) in 2013 objectively certifying quality assurance in many areas of primary care. This status has increased with each attestation to a current tier 4 of 5 PCPCH in 2020. Established in 1991, CNM is the first and one of the largest ongoing, integrated health care facilities in the Northwest.
Dr Milner has also led the way in naturopathic cardiovascular and pulmonary care and has provided training for numerous medical students (1987-2019), residents (1999-2019) and physicians. Over 25,000 patients with heart disease have received care under Dr Milner over the course of his career. He is world renown for his natural treatment protocols for heart disease, menopause and hypothyroidism. He invented a safe and effective alternative prescription replacement for hpothyroidism by collaborating with compounding pharmacists using T4 (levothyroxine) with T3 (triiodothyronine) in a slow releasing base at precise doses and published his work in the prestigious journal for compounding pharmacists, the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding, Vol.9, Number 4, July/August 2005. He is also the creator of a protocol using amino acids and nutritional cofactors in the management of neurotransmitter deficiency diseases including adrenal exhaustion, autonomic dysregulation, fatigue, depression, anxiety, insomnia, tremors, Parkinson’s disease, concentration and memory impairment, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, unresponsive allergies and stress decompensation.
Dr. Milner has treated over 25,000 patients with heart disease alone over the course of his career. He is world renown for his natural treatment protocols for heart disease, menopause and hypothyroidism. Over 10% of his patients come from around the country outside of Oregon to seek his expertise. He enjoys what he calls practicing “integrated endocrinology” balancing all the endocrine hormones using bio-identical hormone replacement and amino acid neurotransmitter precursors.
Dr. Milner has published several articles on new treatment protocols for hypothyroidism. Most recently, ” Hypothyroidism: Optimizing Medication with Slow-Release Compounded Thyroid Replacement” was published in the peer review journal of compounding pharmacists, International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding (IJPC) Vol. 9 No. 4 July/August 2005. In 2006 and 2007 he lectured around the United States guiding physicians and compounding pharmacists in the management of hypothyroidism using his protocol of slow released compounded thyroid replacement. Dr. Milner has been the medical advisor for the Health Sciences Institute (H.S.I.) and its publications since 1996. H.S.I.’s monthly newsletter circulates to approximately 100,000 subscribers around the world introducing cutting edge, breakthrough and well research nutraceuticals to the readership. He has delivered a compelling presentation titled “ADDSOIL- 7 Keys to Optimal Health” available as a self help resource guide with companion audio tapes through Health Sciences Institute, Agora Publications, 1999.
Design and Development of Dietary Supplements
Dr. Milner has offered his expertise to many supplement companies in the design and development of dietary supplements and homeopathic medications for the treatment of a wide range of conditions including allergies and heart disease. His feature article “Natto and Its Active Ingredient Nattokinase.” Alternative and Complementary Therapies (June 2002) introduced the use of Nattokinase into the United States. He also completed the design and development of a product for cardiovascular health, CardioGOLD, Arista Nutraceuticals, 2007.
Protocols & Public Speaking
Dr. Milner retired from medical practice and academia in January 2021 and currently serves as the CEO of the Center for Natural Medicine. Several of the physicians at CNM have been mentored by Dr. Milner as residents at CNM and are available to consult regarding these and other protocols developed by Dr. Milner.
Dr. Milner is a dynamic speaker with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from the University of Rhode Island. He brings a fresh, enjoyable and comprehensive approach to his lectures. He has lectured extensively for over 30 years nationally and internationally to physicians’ groups and public audiences alike.
