Eliza Hofkosh-Hulbert, LMT

I graduated from East West College of Healing Arts, here in Portland, and began practicing as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2006. My approach to massage therapy balances deep and gentle work, drawing both on intuition and a strong knowledge of physiology. It is informed by my passion for biological science, my own practices of yoga, meditation, and herbalism, and my B.A. in cultural and medical anthropology, as well as of course by the particular person with whom I'm working in each session.
My practice offers massage therapy and energy work to address specific injuries and manage chronic pain, as well as for relaxation and overall balancing. I have particular experience working with rotator-cuff and shoulder injuries, neck injuries and breathing restriction, TMJ and jaw complaints, sacroilliac dysfunction and sciatic pain, and other structural misalignment. I also have experience using massage to help ease the symptoms of various chronic or degenerative conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, post-polio syndrome, and fibromyalgia.
It is my understanding that pain, discomfort, and imbalance arise as a body responds to life experiences. Whether that means the daily stress of sitting at a desk or the impact of a serious trauma, healing is ongoing and unique for each person. Because healing can be a delicate and personal process, I work to communicate openly and make each bodywork session a safe space. I have the training and experience to work with a diverse body of clients, including trauma survivors and people suffering from PTSD, people with eating and body image concerns, and people with concerns about touch. I am also familiar with some of the physical effects and side-effects of sex transitioning, and I welcome clients of all genders.
Every body is different, so I use a variety of therapeutic tools in each session, including techniques from: deep tissue, Swedish massage, myofascial release and structural integration, postural analysis, trigger point therapy, shiatsu, acupressure, muscle energy therapy (MET), reflexology, CranioSacral therapy, and Reiki. I also offer full 60-minute sessions of CranioSacral therapy or Reiki for those who are interested.
